Castle of Orriols Monument · Bàscara, Alt Empordà, Girona Fortified manor house in the hamlet of Orriols, in the municipality of Bàscara, declared Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection). The original castle is already documented in 1021, in the will of Count Bernat Tallaferro, and its lords engaged in litigation with the Count of Empúries and the lord of Rocabertí; in 1381 it was bombarded with stones by the troops of Count Joan I of Empúries. It was later rebuilt as a large fortified manor with two towers and loopholes, and two phases can be distinguished: the 16th-17th centuries on the main façade, facing west, with a large round-arched portal and windows crowned by triangular pediments with carved faces, and the 18th century on the east façade. After serving as two farmhouses, it is today privately owned and in 2024 was put up for auction together with the tenant farmers' house.
