Bassegoda Peak Nature · Albanyà, Alt Empordà, Girona A peak of 1,373.7 metres located between the municipalities of Montagut and Oix, in the Garrotxa, and Albanyà, in the Alt Empordà, in the Alta Garrotxa. Its characteristic pointed shape, its height and the fact that it stands apart from other nearby peaks make it easily recognisable from afar; from its summit, a completely rocky watchtower, there are views stretching from the Gulf of Roses to Canigou. On its north-eastern slope rises the river Borró, a tributary of the Fluvià. The place name Bassegoda may derive from Old Basque, from the words basa or baso ('wild' or 'forest') and goiti ('summit, height'). A plaque placed in 1971 by the Centre Excursionista d'Olot recalls that the writer Marià Vayreda set the opening of his novel La Punyalada here; the peak is included among the 100 cims of the FEEC.
