Church of Santa Maria de Martorelles Monument · Santa Maria de Martorelles, Vallès Oriental, Barcelona Parish church that gives its name to the municipality of Santa Maria de Martorelles (Vallès Oriental), already documented in 1005 within the castle of Castellruf. In 1105 Bishop Berenguer Bernat consecrated the parish church, and in 1161 Bishop Guillem de Torroja transferred the parish to the canonry of Barcelona. Of the original 11th-century structure, the semicircular apse survives, with three horseshoe-arch windows, covered by a quarter-sphere vault restored in 1383; studies suggest the original church may have had three apses arranged in a cross. The building, now Baroque in style, incorporated the chapels of Sant Llorenç (1569), Mare de Déu del Roser (1584) and Sant Isidre (1587) in the 16th and 17th centuries. It has been listed as a bien cultural de interés local (a local-level heritage protection designation) since 1993.
