Castellvell del Far Monument · Llinars del Vallès, Vallès Oriental, Barcelona The Castellvell del Far consists of the remains of a medieval castle located in the municipality of Llinars del Vallès, next to the road to Argentona, in the Vallès Oriental. It is documented since the year 982, when Almanzor conquered the stronghold during his campaign against Catalonia; its castellans were vassals of the counts of Barcelona. In the 13th century it passed to the Desfar family and later became a fief of Ramon de Cabrera, in the time of Peter the Great; in the 14th century the Corbera family carried out major extensions. The castle collapsed in an earthquake on 24 May 1448. Today notable walls and moats survive, along with remains of towers, pre-Romanesque and Romanesque chapels, and a medieval cistern. It is a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection). Photo: Alberto-g-rovi (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Llinars del Vallès
