Castellnou de Llinars Monument · Llinars del Vallès, Vallès Oriental, Barcelona The Castellnou de Llinars, declared bien cultural de interés nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection), stands on a small landscaped hill that overlooks the village of Llinars del Vallès, next to the road from Sant Celoni to Cardedeu. It was built, already in the 16th century, between 1548 and 1558 by Riambau de Santcliment, baron of Llinars, as a residential palace of Renaissance design, replacing the old castle of Far, brought down by the earthquake of 1448. It is a square-plan building about 27 metres to a side, organised around a central courtyard with arcades of Tuscan granite columns. Inside, the noble hall stands out, covered with a coffered ceiling of 234 coffers and a frieze painted with allegorical motifs: the months of the year, the planets, and the theological and cardinal virtues.
