Montseny Biosphere Reserve

Historical milestone · Fogars de Montclús, Vallès Oriental, Barcelona

UNESCO declared the massif a Biosphere Reserve in 1978, nine years before the natural park designation was approved, in 1987. It protects 30,120 hectares and species such as the Montseny newt, the only endemic vertebrate of Catalonia.
