Castle of Santiga Monument · Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, Vallès Occidental, Barcelona The castle of Santiga, today turned into a large square-plan casal with three bays, three floors and a gallery of round arches in the attic, gives its name to the settlement of Santiga, in the district of Santa Perpètua de Mogoda. Its origins go back to the domus of Santiga documented in 1121, when Arnau Geribert d'Antiga, linked to the monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallès, bequeathed it to his wife Guilla. In 1389 King John I raised it to the status of a termenat castle, and over the centuries it passed through the Salbà, Vallgornera, Vallseca and Sentmenat families, whose coats of arms appear on the shield of the voussoired gateway leading to the courtyard. The quadra of Santiga was not annexed to the municipality until the 19th century. The building preserves walls of pebbles and sand and vaults on the ground floor.
