Castle of Plegamans Monument · Palau-solità i Plegamans, Vallès Occidental, Barcelona The Castle of Plegamans crowns, from on high, the lower part of Palau-solità i Plegamans (Vallès Occidental, Barcelona). More than a fortification, it is a large fortified house in the Gothic style of the 14th and 15th centuries, much altered afterward: it preserves in its northeast corner a tower built with river stones joined with lime, the oldest part, from the 11th century. Today it has three floors, roofed with one or two pitches of Arabic tile, and it was last restored in 1995; an old legend speaks of a tunnel connecting it to the Can Cortès farmhouse. The first document mentioning Plegamans, from the cartulary of the monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallès, dates from the year 965; the castle originated as a watchtower, very exposed to invasions in the Middle Ages.
