Castle of Montcada Monument · Montcada i Reixac, Vallès Occidental, Barcelona A medieval castle overlooking the confluence of the Besòs and the Ripoll, on the hill of Montcada (Vallès Occidental). Documented since 1023, it was linked from its origins to the Montcada family, among whose members were the notable Baron Ramon de Montcada, at the court of Count Ramon Borrell, and Guillem Ramon II de Montcada, the Seneschal. Philip V ordered its demolition, which was not completed until 1917, when it still retained a solid round tower; the same demolition destroyed the sanctuary of Santa Maria de Montcada, built on the same site. Today scarcely any remains survive. Photo: Unknown author (Public domain) What to see and do in Montcada i Reixac
