Monastery of Sant Llorenç del Munt Monument · Matadepera, Vallès Occidental, Barcelona The monastery of Sant Llorenç del Munt stands at the top of la Mola, within the natural park that bears its name, in the municipality of Matadepera (Vallès Occidental); it is listed as Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) and bears a strong resemblance to the monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallès, whose monks founded it. The first churches on the site are documented in the year 947, and in 1014 it was established as an independent Benedictine monastery, with a period of great activity under Abbot Odeguer, who consecrated the new church in 1064. Subjected to Sant Cugat in 1098, it fell into decline from the 16th century until its final abandonment in 1804. Restored since the late 19th century, it is still today the subject of conservation work.
