Church of Santa Maria de Barberà Monument · Barberà del Vallès, Vallès Occidental, Barcelona The church of Santa Maria de Barberà, in the Sagrera neighborhood of Barberà del Vallès (Vallès Occidental), on the right bank of the Ripoll river, was built in the second half of the 11th century and consecrated during the pontificate of Saint Olegarius (1116-1137). It is Romanesque in style, with a Latin-cross floor plan, a single nave and a slightly pointed barrel vault. It preserves one of the finest examples of Catalan Romanesque mural painting, from the 12th century, attributed to the Master of Cardona, with a central Pantocrator and cycles of saints. Listed as Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Spain's highest level of heritage protection; code BCIN 906-MH-EN, BIC RI-51-0010160), it was restored after the Civil War and has required a consolidation project under the Generalitat de Catalunya's Romànic Obert program and the Obra Social La Caixa.
