Old Village of Sant Romà de Sau Curiosity · Tavertet, Osona, Barcelona Former settlement in the municipality of Tavertet (Osona), with origins dating back to the 10th century. It reached 1,138 inhabitants in 1857, though by the time it was abandoned barely 300 remained. In 1962 it was flooded beneath the waters of the pantà de Sau, along with two textile colonies, several farmhouses and a medieval bridge from the late 14th century, with five arches, considered the most notable on the course of the river Ter. The residents were relocated in 1951 to the new settlement of Mas de l'Arbós, after their land was expropriated. Of the original village, what stands out today is the old, half-ruined church, which emerges from the water in times of drought and has become a tourist attraction when the reservoir's level drops enough.
