Castle of Centelles (Sant Martí de Centelles) Monument · Sant Martí de Centelles, Osona, Barcelona Twelfth- to sixteenth-century castle in the municipality of Sant Martí de Centelles, Osona, already documented in 898 under the invocation of Sant Esteve. It belonged first to the counts of Osona and later passed to the Centelles family, lords documented from the early thirteenth century. It suffered serious damage during the fifteenth-century Catalan civil war: in 1464 a bombard destroyed part of the stronghold, which surrendered after a siege in 1465 and was later reinforced. French troops under General Saint-Cyr partially destroyed it in 1809, and the Carlists damaged it again in the nineteenth century, leading to its abandonment. Of irregular triangular plan, it preserves in the lower precinct, of Gothic date, crenellated walls with gun loops and a twelfth-century chapel with a barrel vault.
