Castle of Malla Monument · Malla, Osona, Barcelona The castle of Malla stood on the summit of Mount Malla, or Clascar; today only four scattered stones remain of the old building at surface level, although in 1918 the architect Josep M. Pericas was still able to draw remains of rectangular rooms and an enclosing wall that followed the shape of the hill. The castle's district is documented from the year 924 under the original name of Orsal or Orsalitano, which did not change to Malla until the 11th century. The domain belonged to the family of the viscounty of Girona and passed to the count of Barcelona in 1067; in the early 12th century the king enfeoffed it to the house of Montcada, and in the 14th and 15th centuries it was ceded to the Cabrera family and to Roger de Malla and his descendants, lords of the castle.
