Shrine of la Mare de Déu de la Gleva Monument · les Masies de Voltregà, Osona, Barcelona Documented since 1286 and with a chapel built between 1320 and 1345, it was the setting in 1714 for the clashes known as the Fets de la Gleva during the War of the Spanish Succession. The present church was consecrated in 1766 and Jacint Verdaguer lived here between 1893 and 1895. Dedicated to an image found around the 13th century, it is the second most important shrine in Catalonia after that of Montserrat, with a centralized plan, chapels around it and a dome, reached by a grand staircase up to an arched doorway flanked by columns. The cambril where the image is venerated, with gilded vaults, is one of the most notable examples of late Catalan Baroque; its old altar was destroyed in 1936. siglo XIV Photo: Araceli Merino (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in les Masies de Voltregà
