Monastery of Sant Pere de Casserres Monument · les Masies de Roda, Osona, Barcelona The monastery of Sant Pere de Casserres is a former Romanesque Benedictine monastery of the 11th century, the only one of this order in Osona, situated on a very pronounced meander of the river Ter, today half surrounded by the Sau reservoir. It was erected under the patronage of Viscountess Ermetruit, who received the domain of Casserres from Count Ramon Borrell of Barcelona; work began in 1006, the community settled there in 1012, and the present great basilica was consecrated in 1050. Before the monastery, a castle stood on the same site, documented from the year 898, with a chapel dedicated to San Pedro which the viscounts decided to turn into a monastery. Viscounts and noble families of the comarca, such as the Tavertet or the Cabrera, supported the monastery with donations until the 12th century, and some had themselves buried there.
