L'Esquerda Monument · les Masies de Roda, Osona, Barcelona The site of L'Esquerda occupies a 12-hectare peninsula traced by the river Ter between the districts of Roda de Ter and Les Masies de Roda, in Osona, with occupation from the 8th century BC to the 14th century AD. In the 5th-4th centuries BC an Iberian oppidum was built there, protected by a wall closing off the only possible approach, with a pottery workshop and a metalworking one arranged around a long street; at the end of the 3rd or beginning of the 2nd century BC, a fire destroyed much of its structures, including the wall. Systematic excavations began in 1977, led by a team from the University of Barcelona headed by Dr I. Ollich; since 1982 the Iberian sector has also been excavated, where the latest campaigns have brought to light an early medieval silo field.
