Castle of Vilagelans Monument · Gurb, Osona, Barcelona The castell de Vilagelans stands in the district of Gurb (Osona), and is declared bien cultural de interés nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection). Documented since the year 1012, when the archdeacon-levite Seniofred bequeathed the tower to the bishop of Vic, it belonged to the Vilagelans family, documented since 999 and castellans of the castle of Gurb; in 1059 it was ceded to Ponç de Cabrera. On the original site a square-plan casal with small towers was built in the 16th century, next to which survives the chapel of Santa Fe, of much-altered Romanesque plan. In 1920, already in the 20th century, an annex with a central tower was added, giving the complex its present appearance. Photo: Scs1978 (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Gurb
