Church of Sant Joan de Vilassar de Mar Monument · Vilassar de Mar, Maresme, Barcelona Parish church of Vilassar de Mar dedicated to Sant Joan, formed by a central nave and two lower side aisles separated by columns with Corinthian capitals, a transept and a dome over the crossing. Its interior preserves neo-Baroque altarpieces by Josep Obiols, Enric Monserdà, Joan Commeleran and Jordi Vila Rufas, and a post-Romantic organ built in 1936 by Gaietà Estadella. The main portal, with a niche for the image of the patron saint, and the octagonal bell tower are the only preserved parts of the 18th-century temple; the current building was built entirely anew in the 20th century. Vilassar de Mar was traditionally a fishing village, many of whose inhabitants emigrated to Cuba. Photo: 1997 (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Vilassar de Mar
