Parish Church of Sant Genís de Palafolls Monument · Palafolls, Maresme, Barcelona The parish church of Palafolls, in the village of Sant Genís de Palafolls, in the Maresme district, declared a cultural asset of national interest. With a single nave covered by a barrel vault, to which another nave was added on the north side and a chapel on the south side, it retains on the exterior Lombard arcading and a circular Gothic-style defence tower; the flat apse, today converted into a sacristy, has a small window, and the main doorway, on the west side, dates from the 16th century. The parish is already mentioned in a decree of King Louis of France from the year 947, in favour of the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes; the Romanesque church, from the 11th century, was consecrated in 1079 by the Bishop of Girona Berenguer Guifré, and restoration works began in 1502.
