Iberian Settlement of Burriac Curiosity · Cabrera de Mar, Maresme, Barcelona The Iberian settlement of Burriac, located south of the hill of the same name, within the present-day Parc de la Serralada Litoral in Cabrera de Mar, is also known as Ilduro or Ilturo and was inhabited between the 6th and 1st centuries BC. Discovered in 1915 by the architect Lluís Bonet and excavated between 1924 and 1993, it was the capital of the Laietanian territory and, at about two hectares, the largest of the more than forty-five known Iberian settlements in Catalonia, protected by a belt of peripheral watch settlements. It was completely walled during the full Iberian period, between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC, and reached its peak occupation in the 2nd century BC, before shrinking to a small nucleus by the mid-1st century BC. A stretch of the wall is still preserved, with a tower-gate that allowed the passage of carts. Photo: Araceli Merino (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Cabrera de Mar
