Monastery of Sant Pere de la Portella Monument · la Quar, Berguedà, Barcelona A Benedictine monastery set in a broad hollow at the head of the valley of la Portella, in the municipality of la Quar (Berguedà), declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional. Documented since 997 and formally founded in 1003 by the Saportella lineage, later protected by Abbot Oliba with numerous donations. It preserves in good condition the church, with a single nave and semicircular apse with Lombard decoration, consecrated in 1035 by Bishop Ermengol of Urgell. The bell tower is a square tower attached to the north wall, and to the south there is a small two-storey cloister, from the 15th century, around which the monastic quarters are arranged, today very deteriorated, next to the 18th-century abbatial palace (1775). The Romanesque carving of the Majestat de la Portella, from the 12th century, was destroyed in 1936. Photo: Marcsole (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in la Quar
