Castle of la Portella Monument · la Quar, Berguedà, Barcelona Image of la Quar, not of the place itself. Of the castle of la Portella, in the municipality of la Quar, neither the exact location nor its former appearance is known: it stood near the monastery of Sant Pere de la Portella, and the place was also known as Frontanyà. It already existed in the 10th century, when it was the possession of Count Oliba Cabreta, who, on entering the monastery of Ripoll, left it to his brother Bernat Tallaferro, incorporating it into his county of Besalú. It was governed by vicars surnamed Portella, who were the ones who founded a monastery near the castle. From the 15th century onward, reports of it grow ever scarcer, until they disappear completely.
