Monastery of Santa Maria de Lillet Monument · la Pobla de Lillet, Berguedà, Barcelona The monastery of Santa Maria de Lillet is a former monastic community situated in la Pobla de Lillet (Berguedà), first mentioned in documents of 819, although its church was not consecrated until 833. It enjoyed the support of the bishopric of Urgell and the donations of the lords of the castle of Lillet. In 1356 a new church was built closer to the village, which meant that the faithful stopped attending the monastery; it ended up secularised in 1592, although its church kept parish status until the 19th century. The present church, Romanesque and single-naved with a Latin-cross plan, was built in the 12th century and restored in the 14th -whence the Gothic doorway comes- and again in the 18th, when plaster additions changed its appearance.
