Castle of la Pobla de Lillet i recinte emmurallat Monument · la Pobla de Lillet, Berguedà, Barcelona Castle built in 1293 by the Mataplana family on an island in the river Llobregat, head of the barony that gave rise to la Pobla de Lillet, a settlement that received a charter of liberties in 1297 to encourage its settlement. Of the original building, of irregular plan and with Romanesque elements such as arches of elongated voussoirs and decorated lintels, the old rectory survives, raised over its remains after a fire and partly demolished between 1716 and 1719 to build the church of Santa Maria de Lillet; today it operates, restored, as rural accommodation. The walls of the enclosure are not visible, either buried or incorporated into the houses of the village. It is protected as a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection). Photo: Enfo (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in la Pobla de Lillet
