The Abandoned Village of Peguera Curiosity · Fígols, Berguedà, Barcelona The abandoned village of Peguera stands at about 1,600 metres altitude, at the head of the Peguera valley, between the plains of Peguera to the south and the Serra d'Ensija to the north, in the municipality of Fígols. Above the houses rose the rock of Peguera, where stood the castle that from 1390 was the seat of the Barony of Peguera; the settlement also had the Romanesque church of Sant Miquel. The progressive closure of the Fígols mines caused the gradual abandonment of the village, today depopulated and with ruins still visible. Ramon Vila Capdevila, known as Caracremada, a leading figure of the anti-Francoist resistance, was born in Peguera in 1908.
