Castle of Casserres Monument · Casserres, Berguedà, Barcelona Image of Casserres, not of the place itself. The castle of Casserres stood in the Berguedà, in the municipality of Casserres, on the left bank of the river Llobregat, about 12 kilometres south of Berga. It was a large fortress between the 8th and 13th centuries and played a decisive role in the resettlement and reconquest of the territory; in 1025 Guifré II of Cerdanya, Berga and Conflent presided over a trial at Casserres. It is believed to have stood where the present town hall was later built, and the village grew up along a long street linking the castle to the church of the Àngel Custodi. Today no remains of the building are left. Photo: Akamc2 (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Casserres
