Can Negre Monument · Sant Joan Despí, Baix Llobregat, Barcelona Can Negre is a masia (traditional farmhouse) in Sant Joan Despí (Barcelona), transformed between 1915 and 1930 by the modernist architect Josep Maria Jujol, today home to the Jujol-Can Negre Centre, a municipal museum space. The original building dates from the 17th century; in the early 20th century it belonged to the lawyer Pere Negre, who commissioned Jujol to turn the rural farmhouse into an aristocratic house integrated into the new urban layout. The house deteriorated until 1966, when it passed to the Town Council through a donation by the heirs of the Negre family, and was restored between 1984 and 1990. In 1997 it was declared a cultural asset of national interest. Its façade, with undulating lines of Baroque inspiration, combines sgraffito, trencadís, wood, iron and plaster, and inside the staircase with a helicoidal dome stands out.
