Monastery of Sant Benet de Bages Monument · Sant Fruitós de Bages, Bages, Barcelona The monastery of Sant Benet de Bages, a former Benedictine abbey founded in the 10th century, stands in the municipality of Sant Fruitós de Bages (Bages), in a corner of the Vall dels Horts between the Montpeità, or puig de Sant Valentí, and the eroded slopes of the river Llobregat, near the meeting point of the old royal road linking Manresa with Vic; today it is reached mainly from the neighbouring municipality of Navarcles. Declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection), it is one of the most interesting monastic complexes in Catalonia, with elements ranging from the Romanesque of its founding period to Art Nouveau, by way of the Baroque, which makes it one of the jewels of Catalan Romanesque art, enriched with additions over the centuries.
