Castle of Rajadell Monument · Rajadell, Bages, Barcelona Rajadell Castle stands on a hill and was, together with the church, the origin of the village of Rajadell, in the comarca of Bages. It is documented from 1063 under the name Castri Ridagel, and the Rajadell family, who already owned it in 1273 and held it from the 12th to the 16th century, took part in wars such as those of Provence, Navarre, Almería, Sardinia and Mallorca, and had under its protection the small monastery of canonesses of Santa Llúcia de Rajadell. In 1471, during the Catalan civil war against John II, the castle and the church suffered serious damage. It later passed to the Cruïlles, Aimeric and Pignatelli families, until the marchioness of Sant Vicenç i d'Argençola sold it in the late 19th century. It retains three sections, with an underground chamber and the old dungeon, later used as a wine cellar. Photo: Antoni Grifol (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Rajadell
