Castle of Fals Monument · Fonollosa, Bages, Barcelona The Torres de Fals, together with the old parish church of Sant Vicenç and the rectory, form the complex that occupies the site of the castle of Fals, in Fals, municipality of Fonollosa. The castle was the key that opened and closed the royal road from Barcelona to Cardona, and for that reason it was always under the rule of the lords of Cardona; the earliest mentions date from 996, and in 1314 it became attached to the viscounty organised by Ramon Folc VI de Cardona. Of the two circular towers that survive, the older one, adjoining the rectory and the church, dates from the 11th century, with a diameter of 9 metres and a height of about 19.5 metres; the newer one, from the late 13th and early 14th centuries, is about 18 metres high. The church fell out of use owing to the risk of collapse, although it has been under restoration since 2000; for more than thirty years it has hosted the Bages living nativity scene.
