Castle of Castellgalí Monument · Castellgalí, Bages, Barcelona The Castell de Castellgalí is a ruined termenat castle, situated above the Llobregat valley, in the comarca of the Bages. It is already documented in 867 as Castelo de Galindo. Throughout the Middle Ages it belonged to various noble families: the Castellgalí from 1178, Bernat de Torres from 1350, the Rajadell from 1413 and the Amigant from 1673, until it reached the Despujol, marquises of Palmerola, its last feudal lords. During a conflict with King John II it was temporarily ceded to the monastery of Montserrat. It is believed to have been destroyed between 1462 and 1472. Remains of a small Romanesque chapel dedicated to Santa Maria are also preserved. The castle has been declared a cultural heritage asset of national interest since 1988.
