Castle of Castellar Monument · Aguilar de Segarra, Bages, Barcelona Castellar castle, in the municipality of Aguilar de Segarra, was probably built in the 9th century in a strategic spot for military purposes, and has been documented since the year 983. It is a rectangular building raised on the rock which in the 17th century was converted into a farmhouse, inhabited until a few decades ago. It had a system of defence towers from which derive the names of the neighbouring farmsteads of les Coromines, Puigfarner and Seguer, and beside it, on the same side of the hill, stand the church and the rectory, with which it forms a group crowned by the bell tower. In 1707 Charles III granted the county of Castellar to Francesc d'Amat-Grevalosa, whose descendants were, from 1923, counts of Sant Miquel de Castellar.
