Castle of Jorba Monument · Jorba, Anoia, Barcelona Remains of the castle that crowns the hill of la Guàrdia (549 m), above the village of Jorba, comarca of Anoia. Romanesque in style, it is documented for the first time in 978 and was the centre of the barony of Jorba, whose first lord, Guerau de Jorba, was a councillor to Ramon Berenguer IV. At the end of the 12th century the barony passed, through marriage, to the viscounty of Cardona, and changed hands several times until reaching the counts of Aranda and the dukes of Híjar. It served as a barracks for the liberal forces during the first Carlist War, which led to its destruction, along with the chapel, between 1833 and 1840; in 1890 its ruins were acquired by the Muntadas family. Today it is preserved in poor condition: only a circular tower remains, from the 12th or 13th century, along with fragments of the perimeter walls.
