The battles of El Bruc against the French

On 6 and 14 June 1808, Catalan somatén militias and militiamen halted in the defiles of El Bruc two Napoleonic columns that were climbing towards Manresa. Antoni Franch led the volunteers and the episode became a symbol of the resistance.
