Castle of Castellfollit Monument · Castellfollit de Riubregós, Anoia, Barcelona Castellfollit Castle, also called the castle of San Esteban, stands five minutes' walk from the village, at 500 metres above sea level, overlooking the Llobregós valley. Its wall, more than a thousand years old and built under Muslim rule, is the oldest surviving element; documented since 1039, in 1148 it was given to Count Ramon Berenguer IV and became linked to Cardona from 1314. It preserves a fortified perimeter of 106 metres, reinforced with two circular towers and a third, square-based one twelve metres high; it came to have at least four towers. Nearby also stands the Ballester tower, round in plan and about 14.6 metres high. It was badly damaged by the military in 1822 during the Liberal Triennium, who tried to destroy it thoroughly.
