Church of Sant Francesc de Vilafranca Monument · Vilafranca del Penedès, Alt Penedès, Barcelona A Gothic church of the early fourteenth century on Carrer de Sant Pere, part of the former Franciscan convent known as the Antic Casal Vilafranquí, situated outside the walls of the medieval town. It preserves the cloister and numerous medieval noble tombs, among them those of the Penyafort, Bartomeu, Hug de Cervelló and Pere d'Avinyó families, and for this reason it now serves as a lapidary museum of great artistic interest. The convent became a hospital in 1835 and went on to house the Hospital Comarcal. The church has a single nave with side chapels and a square apse added later, and preserves the chapel of Sant Jordi, restored in 1891, with an altarpiece attributed to Pere Serra. It has been a Bien Cultural de Interés Local (local-level cultural heritage protection status) since 2004 (IPAC 4909). Photo: Martinge636 (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Vilafranca del Penedès
