Church of la Trinitat de Vilafranca Monument · Vilafranca del Penedès, Alt Penedès, Barcelona The Església de la Trinitat is a church in Vilafranca del Penedès, on the corner of Carrer de la Font and Carrer dels Trinitaris, protected as a Bien Cultural de Interés Local (local-level cultural heritage protection status). It was built on the site of an earlier church dedicated to the Mare de Déu del Remei and part of the former Hospital del Sant Esperit, built in 1272 and occupied by Trinitarian friars from 1557: work began on 8 December 1578. It has a single nave with side chapels and a rectangular apse; the octagonal bell tower was finished in 1908. In 1868 it became Vilafranca's second parish church. The adjoining Remei chapel was destroyed by fire in 1934 and rebuilt by the architect Josep Brugal, reopening in 1935; today it is the Blessed Sacrament chapel.
