Coca garlanda Food and drink · Vilafranca del Penedès, Alt Penedès, Barcelona The coca garlanda is a sweet typical of the Penedès, shaped like a tortell topped with matafaluga soaked in anise and sugar, traditionally eaten as an Easter mona. Besides in Vilafranca, it is made in other villages of the Alt Penedès, the Baix Penedès, southern Anoia and northern Baix Llobregat; the Santa Fe del Penedès variety, about 20 centimetres in diameter, is distinguished by following an entirely handmade process, without industrial machinery. In Vilafranca, the local workshops keep it as a characteristic item of the comarca's traditional pastry-making, tied to the town's festive calendar.
