Hamlet of Santa Susanna Monument · Avinyonet del Penedès, Alt Penedès, Barcelona The Caseria de Santa Susanna, in the municipality of Avinyonet del Penedès, stands on a crag at 338 metres, surrounded by cultivated land. It is an agricultural complex of documented origin in 1152; in 1158 the place was ceded by Ramon and Sibil·la de Ribes to Berenguer d'Avinyó. The most notable feature is a square-plan stone tower with a gabled roof of Arab tile; the rest of the buildings retain features of interest, such as jambs, sills and stone lintels and segmental arches. It is popularly called "Castell" because of its elevated location and the tower itself, although there is no documentary evidence of a military origin. Today the settlement is practically abandoned.
