The wine of the juan garcía grape Food and drink · Fermoselle, Sayago, Zamora Image of Fermoselle, not of the place itself. The wines of Fermoselle fall under the Arribes designation of origin and are made from the native juan garcía variety, also known as malvasía negra in some municipalities of Salamanca province, grown on the terraced plots of the Duero canyon. Almost impossible to find outside this area, it produces good young wines, crianzas and reservas, and is also used as a blending variety alongside other grapes from Castile and León and Galicia. It accounts for around 65% of the vineyard area in the Arribes, a proportion that in municipalities such as Fermoselle or Pereña reaches up to 90% of the land under cultivation.
