The Tejedelo forest Nature · Requejo, Sanabria, Zamora This yew grove mixed with chestnut trees, whose oldest specimens are over a thousand years old, spreads across 1,350 metres above sea level on a north-facing slope of the sierra de Gamoneda, near the village of Requejo de Sanabria, in a valley between granite and slate crags carved out by Quaternary glaciers. The area, with a transitional climate between Mediterranean and Atlantic, receives more than 1,000 millimetres of rain a year. It is designated a Site of Community Importance within the Natura 2000 network, and also a special protection area for birds, being one of the best-preserved yew stands in the north-west of the peninsula.
