Castilla y León Day Activity · Villalar de los Comuneros, Tierra del Vino, Valladolid Image of Villalar de los Comuneros, not of the place itself. Every 23 April the town holds the celebration of the Día de Castilla y León, the official holiday of the autonomous community since Ley 3/1986 established it, which turns this municipality of 469 inhabitants into the symbolic centre of the region. The date commemorates the battle that on that same day in 1521 sealed the defeat of the Comunidades of Castile, with the beheading of its three leaders, Padilla, Bravo and Maldonado. The autonomy statute of Castile and León itself, approved in 1983, had already designated 23 April as the community's holiday.
