The Trabancos river Nature · Carpio, Tierra de Medina, Valladolid Image of Carpio, not of the place itself. The Trabancos is a seasonal river, a tributary of the Duero from the south, which rises in La Moraña, in the province of Ávila, near Herreros de Suso, at about 1,100 metres above sea level, and runs some 85 kilometres before flowing into the Duero at Pollos, passing between the valleys of the Zapardiel and the Guareña. Its channel, stable but with little flow except during torrential rains, crosses the 56.50 square kilometres of the district of Carpio, among other towns in the province of Valladolid such as Fresno el Viejo and Castrejón. For centuries it had no bridges, so that in winter floods left the road cut off, a hardship noted by 19th-century travellers. Photo: Fundación Joaquín Díaz (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Carpio
