The Fonte Bellida at the foot of the plateau

The village's name comes from a Fonte Bellida, the beautiful spring that flowed at the foot of the moorland. Madoz described it in the nineteenth century as set in the valley of the Esgueva, on the right bank of the river, with eighty houses.
