Church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán Monument · Campaspero, Campo de Peñafiel, Valladolid Image of Campaspero, not of the place itself. The church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán in Campaspero (Valladolid) was completed around 1760 using limestone from quarries in the municipality itself, replacing the medieval church, of which only the transept survives, dated 1560 and standing opposite the present-day parish church. The works, promoted by the parish priest Francisco Julián de las Monjas, began in late 1757 and were concentrated in 1758 and 1759; Campaspero did not need financial help from the diocese to pay for them, a sign of the standing the town had reached. It is a single-nave church, very elongated, of six bays, covered with a lunette barrel vault; the transept is topped with a small dome and a round-arched triumphal arch. The main altarpiece was carved in 1765 by Antonio Bentosa, of Sepúlveda. Photo: Rastrojo (D•ES) (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Campaspero
