The battle of Cabezón Historical milestone · Cabezón de Pisuerga, Campiña del Pisuerga, Valladolid Image of Cabezón de Pisuerga, not of the place itself. The Battle of Cabezón was fought on 12 June 1808 by the bridge over the Pisuerga at Cabezón de Pisuerga, near Valladolid, in one of the first clashes of the Peninsular War, when Captain General García de la Cuesta tried to cut communications between Madrid and Irun after the uprising of 2 May. A Castilian militia of about 4,700 poorly armed and untrained men, reinforced by 300 regular horsemen and 4 pieces of artillery, was routed by the cavalry of the French general Lasalle, at the head of a detachment of about 9,000 men from Marshal Bessières's corps advancing from Burgos after occupying Torquemada and Palencia. 12 de junio de 1808 Photo: Luis Rogelio HM (CC BY-SA 2.0) What to see and do in Cabezón de Pisuerga
