The bloodstone jasper of Espejón

The red limestone veined from these quarries was the most prized Spanish ornamental stone of the sixteenth century. It was carved for the cathedrals of Toledo, Burgos and Segovia, for El Escorial and for the Royal Palace of Madrid.
