The Hermitage of San Mamés Monument · Montenegro de Cameros, Pinares, Soria Image of Montenegro de Cameros, not of the place itself. The hermitage of San Mamés, in Romanesque style, stands in Montenegro de Cameros, a municipality in Soria that went from 532 inhabitants in 1842 to just over forty today, with 99% of its area under environmental protection. It was declared a national historic-artistic monument on 20 April 1983, by royal decree published on 3 June of that same year and signed by the Minister of Culture, Javier Solana, and King Juan Carlos. In July 2020 a restoration process concluded, funded mainly by the Junta de Castilla y León and, to a lesser extent, by the Diocese of Osma-Soria; it today holds the status of Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection).
