Church of San Juan Bautista de Sanchopedro Monument · Orejana, Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Pedraza, Segovia In the hamlet of Sanchopedro a Romanesque church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist is preserved; the municipality also has the church of the Holy Spirit and traces of Roman occupation around Orejanilla. Built in the last years of the Romanesque period, between the 12th century and the early 13th, next to an old quarry near the district of la Revilla, it is a first-rate example of Castilian Romanesque and today houses the municipal cemetery. The present building reflects three phases: the chancel, the oldest part; the transverse arches of the 16th and 17th centuries; and the porch and tower, from the 18th. The porch, carved in limestone, brings together one of the richest sculptural ensembles of Segovian Romanesque, with eight round arches on paired columns and capitals of great interest.
